How to Read an MGRS Coordinate
A typical MGRS coordinate looks like this: 18T WL 848 122
- 18T (Grid Zone Designator): This tells you which massive chunk of the world you are in (similar to a UTM zone).
- WL (100,000-meter Square Identifier): This is a two-letter code that narrows your location down to a specific 100km by 100km square. This replaces the long numbers used in UTM.
- 848 122 (Numerical Location): The first half (848) tells you how far East to go, and the second half (122) tells you how far North to go within that square.
Understanding MGRS Precision Levels
