Verify Datum OffsetsGPS receivers measure height above the WGS84 mathematical ellipsoid (h). Topographic elevation (H), however, refers to orthometric height above mean sea level (the geoid). The geoid undulation (N) links them: H = h - N. This tool returns sea-level orthometric elevation.
DEM data aggregates global terrain samples from shuttle radar (SRTM) and Copernicus satellites into 30-meter grids. For extreme mountain peaks or ocean trenches, elevation values represent grid-averaged terrain height.
